Finding Comfort in Classics This Back-to-School Season

Back-to-school is in full swing. While some kids have started heading into the classroom, others have set up new home desks. But wherever you go back to school, it all feels extra new, different and even scary (31% of shoppers feel some sense of fear this back-to-school season). While a lot is unknown, one thing remains constant—gearing up for the day with breakfast.

While there are so many options when it comes to breakfast these days, sometimes the classics—like a big bowl of cereal—are the best. Our exploration of COVID and commerce in the Next Normal exposed that shoppers are looking to comforting classics during these uncertain times. And for many parents, cereal is the ultimate classic breakfast of their youth. To this day, it is a huge selling season for the industry as shoppers stock the pantry with easy breakfast items reaping rewards like Box Tops and savings.

But this year, you don’t just have to choose from classics, you can explore churro cereal, Brownie Crunch Cocoa Puffs, or low carb cereal from Seven Sundays. With a recessionary mindset, rising grocery prices on things like eggs, more shoppers may be turning to comforting classics like cereal this school season.
